Mac Alford '00 and his wife Dragana welcomed their second son, Nikola Tesla, on November 17, 2009 in Hattiesburg, MS.
Max Anderson '08 worked with a group of classmates at graduation this year to found "The MBA Oath", a Hippocratic oath for MBAs. Now more than ever, they feel that business leaders must be called to integrity, honest dealing, and following the law. They had more than two-thirds of their Harvard Business School class sign the oath, and now more than 1700 MBAs worldwide have signed it. This spring, his group is reaching out to other schools, and Max is publishing a book about the oath. Although not a cure-all, Max thinks the oath is a small but positive step forward to improving the business leadership of our culture.
Matt Cabeen '07 successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale in early January. Just a few weeks later, he and his wife Rose and 16-month-old son Tommy welcomed baby Benjamin Matthew, born January 20. He and his family will be moving to the Cambridge, MA area in the fall, where Matt will do a postdoc at Harvard.
Alison Klein Esselink '01 and her husband Rik welcomed a son, Philip Alexander, on October 15, 2009. They live in Amsterdam.
Nathan Grills '07 has been involved in facilitating the networking of small Christian community health programs in North India. This social networking is important for small Christian NGOs to give them credibility, improve their program quality, and ultimately better improve the health of people in India. Facilitating this type of network can be a key role for external agents and aid workers. Nathan will now be researching the effectiveness of this networking model. Qiong (Juliana) Wang '08 shares the good news that she just defended her PhD dissertation on Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at Yale. She will graduate May 2010 but will continue to live in New Haven, as she accepted a job with the Yale Climate and Energy Institute.
